The 2024 World Innovation Conference (the 8th Annual Session) will be held in Guangzhou, China from December 14th to 15th. The theme of this conference is "Artificial Intelligence Transformation and the World Economy in an Uncertain Era". The conference will invite about 500 guests, including representatives from the political, business, scientific, and journalistic fields of more than 100 countries and regions. The attending guests will deliver keynote speeches on hot topics such as artificial intelligence, the world economy, innovation and openness, and international cooperation, offering suggestions and jointly seizing new opportunities and addressing new challenges.

Based on the features of previous years, this conference will continue to introduce new elements to attract global attention to China's Greater Bay Area with new ideas and highlights. Firstly, the conference duration has been extended from one day to two days, with an additional day of closed-door roundtable meetings on investment cooperation and negotiation in the Greater Bay Area as well as signing ceremony activities. Secondly, the World Innovation Conference Think Tank, the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Committee, the Life Science Innovation Committee, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Innovation Committee will be newly established, and their inauguration ceremonies will be held. Thirdly, the cooperation plan of the World Innovation Conference Think Tank will be launched, and the World Innovation Conference Innovation Awards Plan will also be initiated. That is, starting from 2025, the World Innovation Science Grand Prize will be selected and awarded annually, and the blue book of the World Innovation Competitiveness Ranking will be released, including the rankings of the Top 500 World Innovative Enterprises, the Top 100 Chinese Innovative Enterprises, and industry innovation index rankings, etc.

This conference is the eighth annual grand event that has been continuously held in Guangzhou, China since the establishment of the World Innovation Conference in 2017. The conference activities will last for two days, including a welcome dinner, a plenary session, theme forums, closed-door roundtable forums, economic and trade cooperation negotiations, investment signings, and business inspections, etc. Among them, the plenary session and theme forums will be presented in various forms such as simultaneous live broadcasts in multiple languages both offline and online. Mainstream news media at home and abroad will be invited to participate in the reporting to convey the voice of the World Innovation Conference to the world.

Overview of the World Innovation Conference (WIC)

The World Innovation Conference (WIC) was founded in 2017. It is an international innovation cooperation and exchange platform established to implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speeches and instructions on innovative development. The mission of the conference is "to serve the national innovative development, promote the innovative cooperation and exchange between China and the international community, jointly build a community with a shared future for human innovation and development, and let innovation benefit mankind"; its vision is "based in China (Greater Bay Area), facing the world, committed to creating an international innovation benchmark grand event and an international innovation cooperation and exchange platform with global influence, and striving to become a bridge and bond linking leaders in the political, business, and scientific fields around the world". 

The predecessor of WIC was the "China Innovation Conference" founded in 2017 and the "Global Innovation Forum" founded in 20 (should be 2018 here, I assume it's a typo). Since 2019, it has been officially renamed as the overall platform of the "World Innovation Conference". Adhering to the spirit of "innovation, openness, cooperation, and win-win", the World Innovation Conference implements an operational mechanism of "marketization, specialization, and internationalization" and explores a management mode of co-deliberation and co-construction by the "Board of Directors, Scientific Committee, and Advisory Committee". Currently, the conference has established good connections with government departments and international organizations in more than 100 countries and regions; has established cooperative partnerships with more than 200 multinational enterprises, leading innovative enterprises, and scientific research institutions; has gathered resources of more than 300 top global entrepreneurs, scientists, and scholars; and has integrated functions such as conference exchange, innovative cooperation, industrial investment, think tank consultation, release of innovation competitiveness, resource docking, and trading services of innovation achievements, continuously providing rich and valuable innovative services for the council members of the conference and governments and enterprises of various countries. 

Over the years, the conference has received guidance and strong support from relevant departments such as the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Development Research Center of the State Council, the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the People's Government of Shenzhen City, the People's Government of Guangzhou City, and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.After eight years of meticulous cultivation and development, the World Innovation Conference has successfully held seven annual grand events, as well as multiple high-level international conferences such as the China Innovation Conference and the Innovation Global Forum. More than 9,000 guests from over 100 countries and regions have attended the conferences, including government officials, heads of international organizations, business leaders, scientists, and experts and scholars. Nearly a hundred important guests have delivered keynote speeches at the conferences, a series of important cooperation agreements have been signed, and many significant achievements have been made, continuously enhancing its domestic and international influence.

The World Innovation Conference will hold its global annual conference in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area of China every year and will also hold international innovation conferences in popular cities with innovative competitiveness around the world. It will release the "World Innovation Development Report" and the "World Innovation Competitiveness Ranking List", inviting leaders in the political, business, and scientific fields around the world, members of the Scientific Committee, Advisory Committee, and Board of Directors of the World Innovation Conference, young scientists, young entrepreneurs, and media journalists to participate together and conduct in-depth cooperation in relevant fields.

In addition, next year the World Innovation Conference will hold innovation forums that promote the coordinated development of science and technology, industry, economy, and regions (such as the Science and Technology Innovation Forum, the Economic Innovation Forum, the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Forum, the Automobile and New Energy Innovation Forum, etc.), seminars that connect technology industries with financial investments, innovation public welfare lecture halls open to the public, and online and offline seminars focusing on young scientists and young entrepreneurs. In the future, the World Innovation Conference will regularly hold international conferences such as the World Innovation Conference Davos Forum, New York Forum, and Hong Kong Forum to explore future innovation.
