Conference Overview

The World Innovation Congress 2024 (8th Edition) will be grandly held in Guangzhou on December 14-15, with the theme "Technological Innovation and the Uncertain Global Economy." This edition of the Congress will invite approximately 500 guests, including political, business, and scientific representatives from over 100 countries and regions. Top domestic and international scientists, economists, and entrepreneurs will deliver keynote speeches on hot topics such as technological innovation, artificial intelligence, the global economy, and international innovation cooperation. Together, they will seize new opportunities and address new challenges in the current and future landscape, building consensus and contributing wisdom to promote international innovation cooperation, and offering strategies for building innovation powerhouses and high-quality national development, as well as for building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an international innovation hub.

The Congress activities span two days and include a welcome dinner, plenary sessions, thematic forums, economic and trade cooperation exchanges, investment signings, and business inspections. Mainstream media from both domestic and international arenas are invited to cover the event, conveying the voice of the World Innovation Congress to the world.

Building on the features of previous years, this Congress will continue to bring forth new ideas and attract global attention to the Greater Bay Area of China with new perspectives and highlights. Firstly, the duration has been extended from one day to two days, with an additional day dedicated to closed-door meetings and signing ceremonies for economic, trade, investment, and innovation cooperation, attended by delegations from nearly 20 countries. Secondly, for the first time, the "Greater Bay Area Night" welcome dinner will be held to introduce the investment policies and business environment advantages of the Greater Bay Area to global guests. Thirdly, the World Innovation Congress Think Tank Global Cooperation Program will be launched, along with the World Innovation Congress Innovation Awards Program; starting from 2025, the "World Innovation Science Award" will be selected and presented annually, and the Global Innovation Competitiveness Ranking Blue Book will be published, including the World's Top 500 Innovative Companies, China's Top 500 Innovative Companies, and industry innovation index rankings. Fourthly, new establishments such as the World Innovation Congress Think Tank, Artificial Intelligence Innovation Committee, Life Sciences Innovation Committee, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Innovation Committee will be inaugurated with a founding ceremony. Fifthly, for the first time, the "Innovator of the Year" award will be presented to distinguished scientists.

Overview of the World Innovation Conference (WIC)

The World Innovation Conference (WIC) was founded in 2017. It is an international innovation cooperation and exchange platform established to implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speeches and instructions on innovative development. The mission of the conference is "to serve the national innovative development, promote the innovative cooperation and exchange between China and the international community, jointly build a community with a shared future for human innovation and development, and let innovation benefit mankind"; its vision is "based in China (Greater Bay Area), facing the world, committed to creating an international innovation benchmark grand event and an international innovation cooperation and exchange platform with global influence, and striving to become a bridge and bond linking leaders in the political, business, and scientific fields around the world". 

The predecessor of WIC was the "China Innovation Conference" founded in 2017 and the "Global Innovation Forum" founded in 20 (should be 2018 here, I assume it's a typo). Since 2019, it has been officially renamed as the overall platform of the "World Innovation Conference". Adhering to the spirit of "innovation, openness, cooperation, and win-win", the World Innovation Conference implements an operational mechanism of "marketization, specialization, and internationalization" and explores a management mode of co-deliberation and co-construction by the "Board of Directors, Scientific Committee, and Advisory Committee". Currently, the conference has established good connections with government departments and international organizations in more than 100 countries and regions; has established cooperative partnerships with more than 200 multinational enterprises, leading innovative enterprises, and scientific research institutions; has gathered resources of more than 300 top global entrepreneurs, scientists, and scholars; and has integrated functions such as conference exchange, innovative cooperation, industrial investment, think tank consultation, release of innovation competitiveness, resource docking, and trading services of innovation achievements, continuously providing rich and valuable innovative services for the council members of the conference and governments and enterprises of various countries. 

Over the years, the conference has received guidance and strong support from relevant departments such as the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Development Research Center of the State Council, the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the People's Government of Shenzhen City, the People's Government of Guangzhou City, and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.After eight years of meticulous cultivation and development, the World Innovation Conference has successfully held seven annual grand events, as well as multiple high-level international conferences such as the China Innovation Conference and the Innovation Global Forum. More than 9,000 guests from over 100 countries and regions have attended the conferences, including government officials, heads of international organizations, business leaders, scientists, and experts and scholars. Nearly a hundred important guests have delivered keynote speeches at the conferences, a series of important cooperation agreements have been signed, and many significant achievements have been made, continuously enhancing its domestic and international influence.

The World Innovation Conference will hold its global annual conference in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area of China every year and will also hold international innovation conferences in popular cities with innovative competitiveness around the world. It will release the "World Innovation Development Report" and the "World Innovation Competitiveness Ranking List", inviting leaders in the political, business, and scientific fields around the world, members of the Scientific Committee, Advisory Committee, and Board of Directors of the World Innovation Conference, young scientists, young entrepreneurs, and media journalists to participate together and conduct in-depth cooperation in relevant fields.

In addition, next year the World Innovation Conference will hold innovation forums that promote the coordinated development of science and technology, industry, economy, and regions (such as the Science and Technology Innovation Forum, the Economic Innovation Forum, the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Forum, the Automobile and New Energy Innovation Forum, etc.), seminars that connect technology industries with financial investments, innovation public welfare lecture halls open to the public, and online and offline seminars focusing on young scientists and young entrepreneurs. In the future, the World Innovation Conference will regularly hold international conferences such as the World Innovation Conference Davos Forum, New York Forum, and Hong Kong Forum to explore future innovation.
